Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of China’s e-commerce behemoth, Alibaba Group, stands out among Chinese entrepreneurs not just for the businesses he creates, his ability to mingle with international politicians and commercial celebrities, but also for the way he dresses and performs.

On September 8, Ma celebrated Alibaba’s 18th birthday party in eastern China’s city of Hangzhou where the firm is headquartered by paying tribute to American pop icon Michael Jackson. To an audience of 40,000 Alibaba employees in Huanglong Stadium, a disguised Ma rode a black motorcycle onto stage in an outfit similar to what Michael Jackson used to wear.

Masked, he danced to the beat of the King of Pop’s “Billie Jean”. After revealing his identity, he was joined by a fleet of Alibaba executives who danced with him to other Jackson songs.

The video of his performance, unsurprisingly, went viral on the internet. Yet this is hardly the first time Ma has made such a jaw-dropping appearance.

When Alibaba celebrated its 10th birthday in 2009, Ma sang parts of the Lion King theme song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” onstage while dressed in an outfit reminiscent of Lady Gaga.

In 2008, Ma made a cross-dressing appearance at the company’s annual party. Adorned with gold hair, diamond crown, and white dress, he amused (or perhaps shocked) his staff and online audiences.

Perhaps realizing his previous looks were a bit too outrageous,Ma went with a decidely lower-key look during Taobao Marketplace’s 10 year anniversary in 2013. He appeared as a school boy in a gold baseball jacket, black boonie hat, and large frame glasses.
