Al-Ittihad's Big Move: €30m Signing Jota Faces Contract Termination in Saudi Pro League

A story says that Al-Ittihad has started talking to Jota about getting out of his deal, which he signed in the summer.

The Portuguese was one of the most important players to join the Saudi Pro League this summer. Even though his move didn’t get as much attention as Neymar’s or that of his Al-Ittihad partner Fabinho, the Jeddah giants paid €29.1 million to get the former Celtic player. This was one of the highest transfer fees in Pro League history.

But it looks like his very short time in Saudi Arabia is already coming to a close. Since he got there, there have been rumors that head coach Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t like the 24-year-old player and that he could leave.

Real Madrid star “EXPLODES” and wants to leave the team

Now, it looks like this strange plan is coming true.

The end of a contract

At least, that’s what Ekrem Konur, a writer, says. He says, “Al Ittihad has started talking about how to get out of Jota’s contract.” This is a good possibility because it would make Jota a free agent who could be picked up by a club in Europe.

In fact, Konur says, “there are clubs from La Liga, the English Premier League, and the Italian Serie A that are interested in signing the Portuguese winger.” Still, it is crazy to end a player’s contract just a few weeks after he has joined the team.

And it’s not like Jota has been kicked off the team totally. The 24-year-old forward has played in five Saudi Pro League games so far and scored one goal. All of his trips, though, have been in place of something else.

Al-Ittihad is the defending champion and is currently third in the table, behind league winner Al-Hilal and surprise team Al-Taawoun. Al-Taawoun was not one of the big four clubs that the Public Investment Fund bought in the summer. Al-Taawoun spent €14.8 million on new players, while Al-Ittihad spent €107.7 million.
