Why You Should Watch The Last Jedi (Again)

Like many, I was first introduced to Star Wars as a child of the 90s. Instantly, I fell in love with the mythos of this galaxy, far, far away, and was absolutely addicted to all things Star Wars. (Just the other night, I watched The Force Awakens again which never ceases to make the tears flow whenever I witness Han Solo die or Rey Force grab the lightsaber for the first time on screen. Yes, I cry in movies. Don’t @ me). Needless to say, I’ve been anticipating the release of The Last Jedi for two years — and it’s finally here — but not without its fair share of surprises.

In an era where audiences remain exceedingly more receptive to on-screen violence, The Last Jedi is a film that bravely pushes against the grain. The latest installment of the Star Wars saga has proven to be quite polarizing. At the time of this review, critics ratings sit at a solid 93%, while audiences have given the film a disappointing 55%. So, what is it about this film that has triggered such mixed reactions?

Having spoken to fellow Star Wars fans who eagerly watched the premiere, the consensus, much to our dismay, was that the film was akin to a slow burn, and a complete departure from the Star Wars mythos.
