There’s a handful of holidays coming up this month, and we want to help you celebrate them all. Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or just another weekday off work, we want to assure you that you will be able to celebrate it with your family.

Some holidays also involve close friends joining in on the festivities. However, sometimes it’s more special when it’s just for family members. From Christmas vacation through New Years Day, here are some ideas on how to have fun with your family!

1. Give Your Kids The Freedom to Decorate Their Own Room

You know how excited your kids get whenever it comes near the time of year and because the holiday spirit isn’t just limited to inside our living rooms, we need to spread its cheer all throughout our homes including inside each kid’s bedroom. To do so, let them decorate their own room as they see fit. After all, it’s their room and it will always belong to them even if you buy a bigger one for the whole family to live together in. So let them decorate for this season as much as possible.

2. Elf on the Shelf Makeover

Elf on the Shelf is a holiday tradition that helps parents to share the magic of Christmas morning with their children. Over 60 million elves have been adopted worldwide, making it one of the biggest traditions today!

Involve the family in choosing elf on the shelf clothes, let your kids choose which elf outfit they want their elf to wear. If you like, you can also put a few options that they can choose from. Once they’ve chosen an elf outfit for your elf on the shelf, provide them with stickers and other fun materials and watch as they decorate it! Don’t forget to include the elf pets too! Then dress up your elf according to their design and place it in one of its designated spots.

3. Play Exciting Games with your Kids

There are several games that you can play during the holiday season especially when your kids are still little. You can start by playing Pin the Nose on Rudolph which is one of the most popular games during this time each year or another one is Christmas Charades which you can play using three different Christmas movies as its guesses. Once your kids grow older, they might also want to try playing some other popular board games like Monopoly Santa Clauses or The Santa Clause Trading Places.

4. It’s Cooking O’clock

It is also one of the best things this holiday season especially when you are planning to have family time together. Instead of just watching your kids eat, let them participate in some of the cooking activities so they will be able to feel more involved and will learn at the same time. You can start by making Santa Claus cupcakes or some other simple recipes that would only take you an hour or less to finish preparing everything. Also, don’t forget to tell them about all of these food items’ history during this special holiday season.

5. Teach Your Kids How to Make Handmade Gifts

This season, it’s totally fine even if you’re not yet ready for this yet but your kids can already start learning how to make some handmade gifts especially if they are still between three and ten years old. Just teach them the basic things that they need to know about it then you’ll be surprised on what kind of ideas they would come up with after a few months or at least, during the next holiday season. Don’t forget to make some handmade accessories for your elf on the shelf like elf ears, and elf hat.

6. Bake with the Little Bakers in your Home

Baking together is one of the best ways to bond with your kids especially when it’s during the holiday season. Let them help you bake some Christmas cookies or other holiday-themed items from scratch. Also, instead of just letting them watch you cook in the kitchen, let them lead so they will feel excited and happy especially when you tell them that they can have a piece once everything has been done!

There are so many things that you can do together with your family during this holiday season especially when most people around the world prefer to stay with their loved ones for a whole month or so. In addition, these activities mentioned above may seem simple enough but they definitely will help both parents and kids have fun together even if it’s just for a few minutes per day. Also, don’t hesitate to get creative especially if your ideas are good enough to create a new family tradition every Christmas season. Remember, the most important thing during this holiday season is spending time with each other!
