Appearance
Who won’t like such a fluffy bear? The Samoyed is a siberian dog originating in Russia. Its weight is approximately 30 kg, and its height is up to 57 cm. The standard color is snow white or cream. Samojed is rich mainly for its long coat with a thick suundercoat, which serves as heat insulation before frosts. It also protects the skin from water. The hair is thick, especially around the neck, where the hair forms the so-called collar. In dogs, the collar is larger than in females. Unfortunately, it’s not suitable for allergy sufferers. This breed has a solid skeleton, strong legs, brown almond eyes, and black lips that perfectly emphasize their smile from ear to ear.
Temperament
This fluffy honey is definitely not a “lone wolf”, in his surroundings, he needs to have a family. They even go out with children. Samoyed is a very friendly, loyal companion who will never be a guard of the garden or the house. It has such a kind nature that it simply does not fit for this kind of activity.
Although it’s a peaceful dog, it’s not suitable for the domestic environment where cats are located. Samoyeds see cats as prey and hunt them. At the same time, he is temperamental and clever and needs regular activity where he can get tired enough; otherwise, he will find his own entertainment in the form of a scratched sofa, scattered garbage everywhere around the house, or jumping over the fence. He will invent anything. The activity that is recommended is dog dancing, agility, tourism, dog frisbee, or flyball. Physical activities should also be complemented by psychological activities in the form of puzzles, for example.
If you are a beginner and want to get a dog, a Samoyed will probably not be the best option for you. He needs an authority figure beside him, a master he will obey, and the right training. If you still decide to buy this breed, it’s advisable to do the exercises at least twice a week.
Health and Care
Samoyeds, like most Nordic dogs, have self-cleaning fur that does not require frequent bathing. But it’s recommended to brush the fur every day; in the time of shedding, you won’t do anything but brush every day. Furthermore, it’s recommended to regularly check its teeth, ears, and, of course, cut its nails at least once a month.
Generally speaking, the Samoyed is a healthy breed, but you do not have to avoid the classic disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which are always a risk in larger dogs. These include, in particular, hip dysplasia, further epilepsy, eye disorders, or genetic disorders. These can be avoided by purchasing a purebred dog from a breeding station, as these dogs are tested for various disorders on a regular basis. All disorders can also be prevented with the right diet in the right amount and the proper movement of your dog.
