In June of 2010 SoftBank Founder & CEO Masayoshi Son announced a futuristic 30 and 300 year vision for the conglomerate; ideas and concepts seemingly far fetched back in 2010 for which he believed would come to shape our existence in the coming future. In May of 2018, Masa (as he’s most commonly referred to) closed a $100B fund named the SoftBank Vision Fund, which aimed at being a vehicle for which he could fund these very far-fetched, sci-fi-like predictions. Investors in the gargantuan fund include, Apple, Foxconn, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Sharp, Daimler, and Mubadala Investment Company. The…

Summer 2019 in the micro-mobility space has been the time of vehicle updates and upgrades. Although this is not an exhaustive list of changes we’ve seen this summer in regards to last-mile options, I do my best to outline the most prominent improvements in hardware design and functionality! Without further ado:

On August 1st Bird announced the Bird 2 scooter (Wowzers!). Personally, I absolutely love this very Apple-esque design. Sleek, minimal, and futuristic. It almost looks like (in this photo)as if the background setting is on Mars or some terrestrial planet of sorts. Some functionality improvements include (and are not…

It was the beginning of September 2017 when we first saw electric scooters deploy in Santa Monica, California for the public to use. Now just 1 year and 7 months later the micromobility space has grown immensely, boasting millions of rides, hundreds of millions of dollars in investment capital, and a few thousand scooters in lakes, trees, buried in sand and beyond. But what’s next? Which company will come out on top in the next 5 years? Who will be leading the pack and who will fall? Let’s take a look at the current players in the space making noise.

‘Entrepreneur’ has always been a misconstrued term. Whether seen in Instagram bios or YouTube titles, the term has appeared to be synonymous with all the wrong things and apparently this is not a new misconception…

Status and wealth were and are common associations with the word entrepreneur. Likely through the glorification of many current business moguls. You all know who they are, but guess what, they didn’t pursue their endeavors because they were seeking fame or fortune. No. In fact quite the opposite. These individuals that you read about in books, newspapers, and listen to on podcasts seek meaningful lives…

As we near closer to the new year it’s been quite the wild ride (pun intended) these past 365 days for the micro-mobility space. There’s been some intriguing innovations that have launched recently and exciting updates to some of the bigger names in the space so without further ado, here they are:

E-scooter giant Bird recently launched, “Bird Platform,” which aims to empower communities and individuals by allowing them to manage and deploy e-scooter fleets of their own. All it takes to get started is uploading a personalized logo, selecting a sleeve color that Bird offers, and paying any relevant…

We’re excited to unveil to you the new and improved Oregon Blockchain brand! This decision to re-brand came in conjunction with an internal review of our mission and overarching goals as a student-run group.

The Perfect Partner, Cinco Design

First off, we can’t thank Cinco Design enough for the fantastic job they’ve done on the re-brand of our group. We decided to work with Cinco Design as a design agency located in Portland, OR that believes brand identity is established in the things you make, where they show up, and how they work. As they state on their website, Cinco is for the forward thinkers…

As the E-Scooter craze calms a bit and (for the most part) companies have stayed out of national media these past couple weeks, let’s discuss some things that need to be addressed moving forward.

The Good:

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the wins!

  • Growth and Adoption

Bird has put over 1,000 of its scooters on the streets throughout 18 cities, including Los Angeles, Dallas, and Cincinnati. In April, Bird said its scooters had already been used for over 1 million rides since launching in 2017. Meanwhile, Lime now has scooters in more than 65 U.S. cities as well as…

Self Doubt

This seems to be a consistent habit among young adults and my current peers. I can’t put it any better than what Gary John Bishop says in his book Unfu*k Yourself, “In simple terms, the language you use to describe your circumstances determines how you see, experience, and participate in them and dramatically affects how you deal with your life and confront problems both big and small.” If you tell yourself you can’t do something, well truth is, you probably won’t do it. Having the opposing positive view will likely produce the opposing affect. You will do it…

Zoox, a once secretive, under the radar, self-driving car startup just closed a $500M funding round led by Mike Cannon-Brookes. This recent round of funding now values the company at $3.2B post money, equating to just over $800M in total funding. Other notable investors in Zoox include DFJ, Lux Capital, and more.
