I love the WWII bump on that graph, when in 1944 (I think) over 20% of WAR came from guys too old to call up for the war. The number has literally never cracked 15% outside of that one spike. While this seems bizarre, it’s important to remember sports didn’t have the cultural gravity and economic importance they do now: Ted fucking Williams got drafted, not by the Sox but by the military! Imagine Mike Trout getting drafted to go fight in Iran or North Korea. Crazy times, cool article, good info.
