Want to attend Coachella from the comfort of your own home..and for free? I will be.
Last year Coachella introduced live streaming of their show to millions of fans across the world. I never really knew anything about Coachella before I tuned into their live feed last year on YouTube. A few hours later I couldn’t stop watching and hoped to one day be able to attend the show in person. I was introduced to a bunch of new bands, some of which I had never even heard of before, some of which now occupy my Spotify playlists..Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Matt and Kim, and Major Lazor to name a few. The coolest thing about Coachella is that it’s not just a music festival, it’s a food and arts show as well. They are planning to have over 100 local food vendors on hand this year as well as pop-up restaurants and there will even be a four-course family style seated dinner. The arts festival will feature large scale exhibits from some of the great up and coming artists throughout the country.
I think with Coachella we are starting to see the future of live events where you don’t need to be there in person to be able to enjoy the experience. Online will never replace being at the real thing (at least not for the next few years anyway) but it can augment it in such a way as to allow for a greater number of people to access it that otherwise would not have been able to.
This year I am hoping to tune in again to discover some new bands and feel like I am a part of the desert crowd without having to bare the heat. I plan to have an ice cold beer in hand, and possibly some food similar to what I might find from some of the awesome food vendors that will be there. Maybe I’ll even dig up and wear an old concert wristband to fully immerse myself in the experience of being there. The two weekend festival starts this year on April 14th.
