A film a week for you film geeks

Everybody is now counting the days until their Summer Holidays begin, but the question is what to do with so much spare time? Well, I have proposed a total of nine films (a film a week) that you must go and see this summer, a combination of the most anticipated films with some personal favourites:

1) Wonder Woman (June 2nd)

DC fans will have anticipated this film for years. Those of you who watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last year would have got a glimpse of Wonder Woman, played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot. She reprises her role here this time as the lead, as she battles to try and stop World War One.

2) The Mummy (June 9th)

Algerian actress Sofia Boutella will play the title role alongside big names Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe in one of the most anticipated reboots for a while. The film explores an Egyptian princess who is resurrected in modern times after her tomb is opened, with her mind set to terrorize humanity.

3) Cars 3 (June 16th)

A bit of a guilty pleasure but still one of the most anticipated animated films to take the children out to see this summer. The third installment in the franchise, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) considers retirement after a crash, but is still eager to compete with a new generation of race cars.

4) Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23rd)

TRANSFORMERS! ROBOTS IN DISGUISE…Yes, they are back for a fifth film. The film will act as a direct sequel to the 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction. In the absence of head Autobot Optimus Prime, a battle for survival has commenced between the human race and the Transformers.

5) Despicable Me 3 (June 30th)

Consider yourself despicable if you do not go out and watch this film. The third installment of the franchise sees loveable villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) team up with his long-lost charming, cheerful and more successful brother Dru (I know, very creative) to battle criminal Balthazar Bratt.

6) Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7th)

My personal favourite. Me and my fellow Marvel fans cannot wait for this second reboot as Tom Holland reprises his role as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, carrying on from the aftermaths of Captain America: Civil War with the help of Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.

7) War of the Planet of the Apes (July 14th)

If you liked Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, then you are going to love this one. The third installment in the reboot series stars noble chimpanzee Caesar, as he and his apes are embroiled in a war against an army of humans, in an encounter that will determine the fate of their species and the Earth’s future.

8) Girls Trip (July 21st)

Who doesn’t like a good romcom? The film explores four lifelong friends (Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Larenz Tate) who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Music Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled and wild sides are rediscovered.

9) The Emoji Movie (July 28th)

It’s a wink face from me. Now, a lot of people will question why I have included this film, but I think it will be a success. Everybody is used to using emojis on social media but when they become animated it will come as a welcoming shock. The main character Gene is voiced by T.J. Miller.

It’s time to save up that money to buy nine cinema tickets and nine boxes of popcorn!
