What is Shopify?
Shopify is a popular choice among the customers to set up their online store. It offers tons of valuable extensions, and its ace in the sleeve — simplicity of interaction.
Shopify has over 1.3 million websites running stores on their platform and it’s quickly gaining more market-share as more people flock to the platform.
You can view some example Shopify sites here.
Reqify in action.
This video shows the full end-to-end customer flow. The customer can pay via Metamask or Ledger. If you would like to try out the plugin head to https://demo.reqify.io/ (Mainnet).
Any orders made on mainnet will be fully refunded 😃. Just send me a DM to get a full refund.
Reqify setup guide.
Reqify comes with a full wizard setup which can be found here: https://install.reqify.io/.
First, enter your shop domain.
You will then be prompted to install Reqify on your store, hit ‘Install unlisted app’
You will then be sent back to the wizard to complete the final few steps.
Next, simply enter your Ethereum (ETH)address.
You will then be prompted to click on a link which adds the checkout functionality to your Shopify store. Click the link and add the code to your ‘Addtional Scripts’ field.
Finally, head to the payment settings link and add ‘Request Network’ as a manual payment option. Press activate and you’re done. 😄
Request have applied to Shopify to become an ‘official’ app — if the application is successful I will update the plugin to make the process much more seamless.
Frequently asked questions
Where are the buttons like PayPal, and why do you have to complete your order before paying?
The current flow is a limitation with Shopify. If you aren’t an ‘official’ Shopify app you can’t add buttons like PayPal / Stripe etc. The team have applied for approval and when / if they get approved I can add things like this. After the approval it’ll have a normal payment flow like PayPal or Stripe.
The Request team are applying for: https://help.shopify.com/api/guides/payment-gateway (Hosted Payments SDK)
Currently, if you aren’t approved you can only add code to the order confirmation page thus limiting the functionality quite significantly. It’s not ideal but the only way to get a fully functional app without approval.
Will Reqify be open source?
Yes, Reqify will be fully open source and released under the MIT license. Once the app is in a suitable state and a full audit has been completed, the full source code will be released along with guidelines and best practices for developers.
Will you be taking any profit for from extension?
No, the plugin will be 100% free — no profit will be taken by me or the Request team.*
Will ERC20 tokens / Bitcoin / FIAT be accepted in the future?
Yes, any payment that is accepted by the Request Network will work with the Reqify app — the code is written in a very generic way which means adding new currencies is incredibly straight forward.
What currencies are supported?
Shopify supports hundreds of different currencies so we wanted the same for Request Network for Shopify. With different currency support it means that the conversion rate to crypto can automatically be calculated using your native currency.
Reqify currently supports:
USD, GBP, EUR, CNY, JPY, CAD, RUB, PLN, AUD, SGD, HKD, ZAR, CHF, INR, NZD, DKK, KRW, BRL, IDR — and many more
Any currency supported by cryptocompare and Shopify will work with the plugin.
I will be working on Request related projects full time (like this plugin). 🎉😄🎉
The plan over the next few weeks is to support stores using the plugin while onboarding new stores and implementing the planned features. After that, my plan is to create a PayPal like service with powerful Stripe-like tools and APIs. The two services combined would provide a flexible and simple way for online businesses to accept cryptocurrencies and a simple way for customers to manage and pay.
The biggest issue with mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies is ease-of-use, managing private keys, addresses, gas and transactions all whilst staying safe is a big turn off for the non-tech-savvy. Having a service built on the Request Network which allows users to accept, pay and use cryptocurrencies easily would be an extremely powerful platform.
