“why” is certainly a question many working hard should consider. Most businesses swallow the entirety of a person’s time and effort and spit them out once they’re empty. There is nothing wrong in working hard towards something meaningful, but it shouldn’t feel like forced labour. Don’t let the stick dangling the carrot of “success” or “hapiness” at the end of that next promotion to fool you. As the Zen philosopher Alan Watts asked : “what would you do if money was no object?” do that thing, because it won’t feel tedious. It will have true purpose.
