Behold the dashboard.

I am an instructional designer at a health sciences graduate school. After finishing my masters, I became interested in UI/UX design and how it relates to the field of instructional design. I decided to enroll in Coursera’s HCI specialization program. It’s a really high quality set of courses, but keep in mind, the courses are pretty rigorous and will require some commitment to complete. I am glad to have put out the effort though. As I’m not coming from the perspective of creating an app or trying to get into the field of UI/UX necessarily, I have a bit of a different perspective from the other participants.

So we create a large number of elearning modules in a slide-based format using a authoring tool called Articulate Storyline. This functions similarly to powerpoint, but creates online modules. I wanted to create a dashboard for students to be able to come back to throughout the module. I also wanted it to be a template so the features can change depending on the situation.

I’m getting this done a bit early in the course as I actually start school in a couple weeks, so I needed to really get moving on it early. It’s not the next great ios app, but I’m happy with it and will use it in modules and continue to refine it. I’d also recommend the specialization to other instructional designers looking for an insight into the field of HCI.
