I think this is an interesting analysis, and I’ve thought about the relationship between extra-text and text, specifically w/r/t Fitzcarraldo. That movie is nothing without the Herzog story of taking the ship over the mountain.
I think there is good, fertile ground for art / entertainment making in this space, this space is where true myth building happens. But I don’t think Jared Leto is doing anything worthwhile in annoying you — I think he’s doing it without intending to do so. And your application of this analysis is a roundabout way of saying what most people seem to agree upon: there is something unseemly, or “off” about recent Jared Leto.
I also want to shout out the movie I’m Still Here, which was about the ideas in this article, and which (if I recall) most critics were dismissive.
