Why I Hate Marketing and How a VPN Subscription Helped Me Save More money
“Advertisement is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is OK. You are OK.”
This truth bomb has been dropped back in 2007 by Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm) from Mad Men TV series (created by Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate Television).
Advertisement is an age-old practice, far older than the Internet or Television or even Radio.
According to Wikipedia, Egyptians used papyrus to make sales messages and wall posters. Commercial messages and political campaign displays have been found in the ruins of Pompeii and ancient Arabia. Approximately 200 years ago, Coca Cola, one of the biggest Food And Beverage companies was producing posters promoting their now famous drink which is heavily associated with Santa Claus and Christmas.
One thing we know for sure is that Advertising works. If it wouldn’t, there would be no flashy billboards on Times Square and marketing teams which spread the gospel about the products You and I use.
However, there’s a dark side to marketing. Companies which fit my description of deceptive marketing are Herbalife, Pyramid scheme direct marketing jobs, and not too long ago some of the VPN providers lured their customers with promises of absolute anonymity and security online. For which they deserve a slap on the wrist.
Anyway, shaming greedy capitalists is not the reason why I’m writing this piece. I’m here to share my experience with few VPN providers I consider to be worth using. And not because they offer “cyber anonymity” or “complete security online”. But before I do, I feel that I need to explain why I need a VPN provider myself.
I am a person who supports Gift Economy, in other words, I like to torrent a lot. I also love travelling and often choose to take routes to places where internet is censored and TOR isn’t that easy to use.
That’s why I need a VPN subscription. In fact, I need subscription to more than one provider, in order to protect myself from a clusterfuck whenever one VPN provider stops working by quickly switching to another provider.
Since I wasn’t born into the riches and releasing a sex tape will not make me rich and famous(I will most likely lose remaining friends that I have) I need to remain vigilant about my spending. That’s why I like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas sales, Thanksgiving discounts, Summer deals, etc. Not only because I can participate in scavenging for a cheap xbox, ps4, or a good video game or find good tire deals for my old Honda but also because I can find good VPN deals online from the comfort of my own home.
Without further ado, let me share a list of VPN deals I find appealing.
Top 3 VPN Black Friday deals 2019
NordVPN
This is my main choice. Not because this provider is located in Panama or whatever, but due to the fact that it’s the most reliable VPN provider when it comes to streaming Netflix, browsing the normal Internet while in China or Turkey and torrenting.
I yet haven’t encountered any issues when streaming Netflix or Torrenting, though there were mild speed issues when I was connected to Obfuscated servers in China.
Looks like NordVPN Black Friday deal is already here: They are offering 3years + 1 month deal for only $125.64. By far it’s the cheapest provider I could find out there. Given the perks Nord has to offer this provider is definitely worth every penny.
NordVPN 83% discount + Nordlocker File Encryption and 3 months VPN usage for free ($3.49/mo)

TunnelBear
Super easy to use VPN. One minus is — they don’t offer live customer support and I don’t like to wait around for an email answer, especially if something urgent happens. Connection speeds are pretty good.
Their 2-Year plan costs $4.17/mo for 2 years — that’s less than $100.
Tunnelbear 50% discount for a 2 year subscription ($4.99/mo)
Private Internet Access (PIA)
They have a neatly designed Support system for those who have questions about their service. I suggest you read it before purchasing a subscription. Here’s a sneak peek:
PIA Headquarters are located in the US, Denver, Colorado. Reddit cyber experts deem PIA not to be trusted due to this very fact — they leak user data to the US Government, however, there is no proof. There is waaay too much controversy about whether VPN providers spy on their users online activity.
What I actually like about PIA is that you can connect from 10 devices to different VPN servers with only one subscription. Subscription cost per year is only $39.95 (with a 67% discount) and they offer a 7-day money back guarantee.
Private Internet Access 67% discount ($3.33/mo for yearly subscription)
Conclusion
Gamers, car enthusiasts, lonely people, single moms that love to cook and people who suffer from compulsive shopping disorder, I feel that I am obliged to inform you — whatever shines doesn’t necessarily have value.
My advice when it comes to choosing appropriate VPN provider or any other product on sale is to wait first, buy later. Don’t grab the discount right as soon as sale starts. Whatever is useful for me may not necessarily apply to you.
Think your decision through during the weekend and then make your purchase on Cyber Monday instead. Cyber Monday is an extension of Black Friday invented by VPN providers to prolong their discount for the sake of luring more people to buy a subscription from them.
Hopefully my article helped someone out there. Stay safe while torrenting/travelling.
