The Richest Place…

If you passed away right now, would you leave unfulfilled dreams on the table? In this very moment, would you be able to say you reached the highest level of success you were capable of? We both know your answers to these questions because they are the same answers as mine. The answer is that I would leave things on the table and if I passed away in this very moment, I would have never achieved the success I was capable of.

On Sunday I took a trip into the famous Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. It is a beautiful sight to see with the moss hanging off the trees as it dances in the wind. There are endless rows of pink flowers that bring light to a very dark place. Some of the tombstones are new while others date back to the mid 1800’s. The antique of the older tombstones is beautiful in the creepiest way possible. There are thousands of tombstones through this cemetery and each life story is encapsulated in a quote.

Every tombstone has a name and it is usually followed by a quote that tells how the deceased lived their life. I moved through the infamous cemetery reading numerous bible scriptures and inspirational quotes. Yet it wasn’t these quotes that sparked my insight. As I made my way through the cemetery one thing kept repeating in my mind. It was the question that was listed above. Would I leave anything on the table?

I pondered this question several hours after I left the historic grounds. What hit me was the fact that my answer is a deafening “yes”. I would certainly leave my hopes and dreams on the table if I passed away in this moment. It is a very somber reminder that I have a lot left to accomplish in this world. I was reminded of the Les Brown quote:

“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.”

Could you imagine a world where no one passed away with hopes and dreams? Seriously, could you imagine how advanced and great this world would be? It is something that all of us must keep in the back of our minds everyday. We must remind ourselves of the richest place on earth when we start to fall into the trap of complacency.

I had my wake up call yesterday. I need to take more actions to accomplish my hopes and dreams. I will take those actions because that is who I have become. If you have read this far, this is your wake up call! What actions can you take to start moving towards your hopes and dreams? What can you sacrifice to make sure you live life to the fullest?

The message is very simple. Follow your hopes and your dreams. Start taking actions Today! Don’t wait until it’s too late when you add your currency of lost dreams to the richest place in the world. We all will end up there, the question is what will you do before then?
