Hello world! My name is Adam Brock and I am a student in Dr. Tony Ferrar’s Mechanics of Fluids Class this fall at Temple University. One of our unique assignments for this course is to produce a weekly blog post, and what better than a personal introduction to start the semester off?
This is the beginning of my third year at Temple, the third year of an experience that has changed my life in more ways than I would’ve ever thought. Many experiences have been great, some terrible, and others downright unexpected. I entered freshman year as an excited and aspiring Physics BS major with a goal of becoming a high school physics teacher.
As implied by my registration for Fluid Mechanics, some things do change. My first semester as a Physics major was filled with ups and down, and ultimately I knew by the end of the fall that while I love physics, I don’t think this degree is for my. Before I knew it, I found myself in Engineering Statics with Dr. Dmitriy Dikin in a Mechanical Engineering program like both my parents before me.
Though much has happened in-between now and then (to be discussed at a later date), I find myself excited to finally tackle the subject of fluids and their dynamic nature this fall. This blogging idea is not too unfamiliar, as I kept a journal (private, but same gist) in the summer of 2016.
And now a bit about me before this post comes to a close. I enjoy being more than just one person, playing more than just one role, studying more than just one subject, enjoying more than just one part of this fantastic world. I am an engineering student, undergraduate teaching assistant, undergraduate researcher, diamond peer teacher, ice hockey referee, clarinetist, saxophonist, lover of music, lover of history, lover of nature, lover of my family, world citizen, volunteer, aspiring STEM teacher, and a guy who just likes to have a good time. History may say that I’m trying to follow the path of the Renaissance Man, but to me, I’m only trying to find balance in my life. It’s too short to be just one person.
