The Days I Love Being a Teacher

30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 12

It’s easy to become jaded as a teacher.

It’s easy to dwell on the negatives. They always seem more prominent that the positives. This is just life in general for most of us.

Today was the last day for our seniors. It’s always a bittersweet day for them and me. They take a final, most with fingers crossed. Negotiations are attempted. Goodbyes are said.

As one of my seniors walked out the door he handed me the card in the picture above and said he drew it for me. I’ve seen his doodles throughout the year and thought he was a very skilled artist. It was thoughtful of him to draw and I appreciate the gift.

It’s moments like today, little things like this, that make teaching worth it for me. All the negatives seem unimportant.

As the seniors were walking out after second block several came up to me to say bye, take pictures, thank me for the help in my class.

I’ve only been teaching three years, but already I feel like I’ve done something for so many. It is a great feeling. A feeling I was missing in my previous career.

It’s days like this that I love being a teacher.
