We share so much in common; first names, a love of country, free markets and alikeness to mythical creatures. I’m a conservative troll and you’re the moral equivalent of a unicorn: a moderate democrat. Just as only Nixon could go to China I have to disclose you can’t be the enemy because the party of Keith Ellison doesn’t consider you a democrat.

I think government exists to keep the schools open, cops on the street, and the roads clear when it snows. Beyond that, I believe, more or less, that government should get out of the way.

Said no democrat ever. The modern democrat party believes in cradle to grave provision and “guidance” (read control and regulation) of well, everything. Head start, healthcare, student loans, business loans, subprime mortgage loans, fair pay acts, old age income, etc. Under the Obama administration the absurd overreach extended to advising the various states that men have a constitutional right to shower with girls. Not the sort of thing us regular guys go for, eh cowboy?

Unlimited government is the existential threat to the personal and economic liberty you hold dear and America is celebrated for, the America that people are literally dying to get into. In the 2016 election big government republicans and big government democrats lost to an outsider who intends to deflate the leviathan and return the federal government to its essential but constitutionally defined roles.

Everyone with an interest in safeguarding the constitution should be onboard. Forget the lunatic fringes of the left and right — nobody with half a brain believed that crap anyway. I was not a Trump guy, the truth is he didn’t make my top ten when the primaries began but as a nominally libertarian conservative I have been pleasantly surprised with the personnel (thank you Harry Reid) content and ambition of his administration.

Ironically, Trump is one of the least partisan or socially conservative republican presidents of the modern era. He doesn’t care if you bugger yourself until you turn blue. His sights are set on fiscal and economic reforms that will ignite the economy in ways not seen since Reagan’s model of low tax rates and limits on regulation resulted in the greatest wealth creation in the history of the planet. Reagan set the table for the “peace dividend” and roaring economy of the 1990’s and those of us old enough to have experienced both the Reagan and Obama economies understand there is no comparison between the two.

I believe your concerns are misplaced, the status quo is in serious jeopardy and that should make everyone interested in upholding the constitution and safeguarding the representative republic very happy. We’re not that different you and I — join us.
