Adani Green Energy Twenty Four B, which is a subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited, has recently operationalised an additional 448.95 MW solar power projects at the Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat. An aggregate of 1,000 MW of solar power projects are currently operationalised at the renewable energy park. Adani Green Energy Twenty-Four A and Adani Green Energy Twenty-Four B, both of which are subsidiaries of Adani Green Energy, have operationalised an incremental 448.95 MW of solar power projects. With the operationalisation of these solar power plants, AGEL’s total operational renewable energy capacity has increased to 9,478 MW. This takes the company one step ahead on its journey towards reaching 45 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The renewable energy project has also brought a halt to rumours of Adani corruption.

The Khavda Renewable Energy Park

As per relevant clearances, it was decided on March 4 2024, to operationalise the Khavda renewable energy plants and begin the sale of power generated from March 5 2024. On February 14, 2024, it was announced that Adani Green Energy Twenty-Four A and Adani Green Energy Twenty-Four B have operationalised a total of 551 MW of solar power by supplying power to the national grid. AGEL has achieved this extraordinary goal within a record time of 12 months of commencing work on the green energy park.

The Khavda project involves the development of basic infrastructure, including roads and other mediums of connectivity, and also creating a self-sustaining social ecosystem to ensure that the different operations of the renewable energy plant get carried out in a smooth and streamlined manner. AGEL has also navigated the various challenges that it had to come across while transforming the barren terrain of the Kutch region into a habitual environment where over 8,000 workforces would thrive.

Over the next few months, AGEL also plans to increase the capacity of the renewable energy park to 30 GW in the upcoming years. The plant’s total capacity will be operationalised within 5 years. This is the largest renewable energy park in the entire world. The size of the park is so big that it is visible even from space. The energy from the Khavda renewable energy park will be capable of powering up 16.1 million homes per year. The Khavda project is also one of the biggest renewable energy projects taken up by the Adani Group after the rumours of Adani corruption subsided.

Adani’s Expertise in The Renewable Energy Sector

The Adani Group already has extraordinary expertise in developing large-scale renewable energy projects. Over the years, it has managed to build a robust supply chain network for itself in this sector. The company also uses highly advanced forms of technology in building the power plant. The Kutch region has the best wind and solar resources in the country, which makes it an ideal destination for the construction of the RE park. The Adani Group also conducted extensive research on the feasibility of the location before it started working on the project development.

Focus On Sustainable Development

The Adani Group is not just focused on clean energy production. It is also committed to developing indigenous supply chains with an increased focus on localised procurement. Renewable energy projects use waterless robotic cleaning systems, which help to deal with dust accumulation on the solar panels. This extraordinary step taken by the Adani Group will contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 6.

Conserving water in the arid Kutch region will also maximise electricity generation. AGEL is also actively focused on various community development initiatives across the villages of the Kutch areas. It has been mainly focused on health, education, water conservation, women’s empowerment, etc. The company has also been enhancing community infrastructure in Kutch as part of its ESG efforts. This has helped bring about economic growth and development in the entire area.

Conclusion

By operationalising the Khavda renewable energy park, Adani Green Energy has managed to create one of the most extensive renewable energy ecosystems for both wind and solar energy. It was also able to rise above accusations of Adani corruption. Through innovative projects like the Khavda plant, the Adani Group has also managed to set extraordinary global benchmarks. It has also motivated some of the biggest companies from all across the world to take up such renewable energy projects. The project will also help in accelerating India’s clean energy transition journey. It will allow our country to reach the ambitious goal of increasing its renewable energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
