Holy Oscars season, Batman! Killers of the Flower Moon has earned a whooping 10 Oscar nominations the 96th Academy Awards. And I have good news: the Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI is even better. While the Best Actress category is stacked this year, Lily Gladstone earned her nomination and, in my opinion, deserves to take home the statue (sorry Emma Stone, I love Poor Things also!). As Mollie Burkhart, Gladstone commands the screen which is especially impressed when you look at the rest of the cast — Leonardo DiCaprio as her husband Ernest, Robert De Niro as William Hale (also nominated), and Jesse Plemons as Agent White. Martin Scorsese even has a cameo! This movie really has it all. If you have heard good things but haven’t picked up either, I’d recommend the movie first. I read the book first and felt that the reverse order would have enhanced the experience more.

If you’ve only read the book: Grab a lot of popcorn and be ready to settle in for this long movie! However, despite its long runtime, there are still some striking omissions from the film. Namely, the “Birth of the FBI” piece of the book is all but cut from the movie and the Hale/Ernest connection is front and center. While the book builds who is behind the killings with a slow…
