In the first in this series, I outlined the beginning of the assessment of addiction through the introduction of primary biological symptoms of addiction. This focus gives the patient an introduction into a new way of understanding their problem. We’ll continue with the next iteration in the assessment, but I want to point out that this biological focus in no way stops anyone from asking any other kinds of questions. It’s merely that the focus changes, and by changing the focus we change the meta-narrative we give patients via our assessments.
