In the beginning of May, I came across a video by Gary Vaynerchuk about making money flipping on Amazon and eBay (slight language warning). This caused me to ask myself a question:
How much money could I make using just the stuff I already have?
This led to this:
I listed two window air conditioners online and made $160 almost immediatley. This got me start up money. I decided to go to yard sales that Saturday and I bought a Netgear Router and printer for $6 sold the router for $15 (printer didn’t sell). Later that day, we were in our local Disney store outlet and they had Star Wars figurines for 5.99 and I get 10% with my Chase Disney Card so I walked out with 4 of them for 5.39 a piece. This is where I learned something:
You have to understand the fees.
As you can see, I actually lost money not pricing items properly. eBay takes 10% and Paypal takes 2.9% plus 30 cents (or something like that). Make sure you account for that. I am happy to share this spreadsheet’s formula’s but it is pretty easy.
There’s another piece, though.
As a result of Gary’s video, I started following Reezy Resells and got into selling books on Amazon. I uploaded all of my wife’s old textbooks (Clinical Mental Health)….who knew we had a box with $300 in it in our garage. Full disclosure: I have flipped a few books but that only represents about $30.
So between Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace, I have made $680 in a month. I am so psyched and I have a fun new hobby.
