In The Midst of The Smarts…My Andela BootCamp Experience.

One of the major reason of a career crash for young people in this generation is lack of Mentorship. Montorship as defined by the wikipedia is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, but she or he must have a certain area of expertise.

This generation lacks Mentorship, but this is what you get at Andela — in the BootCamp. In my few days in the bootcamp, i have increased in knowledge a lot not just in technology but also in my soft skills… I have been exposed to what i would i learnt on my own in probably a year — -Mentorship, that’s the word.

Few days ago when i was invited to the Boot camp, I was excited and as well scared, because I asked myself, how deep do you know ? and when i scored myself, i was like…Jesus, oya come and save your boy (LOL). But the journey as been fun — nothing is more fun than a competition amidst the smarts.

During the Home study session of the boot camp, I have worked on different tasks from TDD to projects on Git, Exploring the Github functionalities, HTTP and Web, FrontEnd design, task on Word Count, FizzBuzz, OOP, and the list goes on. Getting stuck on these projects, having to debug and making them pass test has not just made me a better programmer but also made me appreciate what software engineers go through before we are able to sit at the convenience of our house and use their product…Kudos to you guys, it is not easy (thumb up).

The first week of the boot camp is almost over and I now have high expectations, I love to be in the midst of these gurus, talk about life and look for how we can affect it and change the tide together. This is the feeling you get when you are been mentored, when you are in the midst of the smart …it’s all about Mentorship. TIA, the place of awesomeness.
