It is the Era of Social comparisons where we compare ourselves to our Family members, Friends, Colleagues and even strangers who have nothing to do with our lives. Why do we do so?

There are multiple answers to the question above, one of the most important is the criticism that we receive from people around us. The society these days has set trends where one should look better than he/she actually is or have better living standard than present one. The benchmark is set by society as to how would we look better in terms of Physique , Clothes, etc. and unluckily many of us have fallen victim to these standards. The struggle of looking better and better has made us lose our Self-acceptance, we deny the truth of being beautiful and best in the way Mother Nature has made us.

People go for Diets, Makeovers and what not just to looking beautiful in their selfies and to meet the requirements of critics around them. In the pursuit of continuous improvements and craving to look better people fall victim to the Self-Doubt and keep questioning their personalities which leads to depression.Another element of social comparison is social media where all the latest trends and happenings come up and people start worrying that they are lagging behind in terms of Style, ignoring the fact that the trend setters just have good pictures to portray on social media but they don’t have a happier life than people who are self-compassionate.

We should work on our grooming positively for own selves only and not to compare ourselves with the people and neither as a feedback to their criticism. People should be happy with how they look, How they talk, Whatever resources they possess etc. It’s not bad to go for a better look but comparing oneself to other is definitely wrong and leads to stressful life.

Accept yourself ! Be Self-Compassionate!
