I switched to tech
Sometime earlier this month, I made a decision that has changed the course of my life.
I switched careers! It was a bit scary but I did.
I decided to pursue what I really wanted to do.
Although I studied Microbiology in college, I had always been intellectually stimulated with my more math-related courses. I usually joke that if I ever had to go back to college, I would study either Physics(my best subject), EE or CS.
So, I ditched a career path in the sciences to plunge into the tech scene.
After finishing the compulsory National Youth Service, I had to decide what to do next. I wanted to go into programming but I didn’t have enough experience(I had been self-learning programming with Python). Fortunately, I got a job as a Quality Control Officer at a Food Processing company and another to start out as a Developer Intern in a tech company in Lagos. Well, in the Dev role, I would be on probation for 6 months to learn and then contribute to the time.
However, it was a no-brainer. I ran with the Dev job even though it would pay significantly lower than the QC role.
But I was a bit uncertain. What if I didn’t make it in tech? What if I don’t have what it takes?
Well, I decided to take a risk on myself.
Now, I am on this interesting journey. I am starting out learning UI design/Front-end development.
Subsequently, I will be writing more about this journey.
