A week ago, I received the mail confirming that I have passed all the requirements of the Associate Android Developer Certificate. Making me ponder and relieve the memory of how it all started.

It all started with this post by the wonderful world-class developer, Otemuyiwa Prosper.

I applied and forgot about it. Unknowing that something big was cooking on the Andela Nigeria Fireplace.

It was a Sunday morning in the bus in my way to church. Sitting there, admiring nature and being bored with the games on my phone , I decided to take a look at my unattended gmail. There I saw the notice of an extension to the period needed to submit a task for an Android scholarship that I had once applied for. So I took the test, performed averagely well and delivered the needed project.

We had 3 projects to prepare according to the curriculum;

  • Popular Movies Part 1: An app for viewing popular movies, their posters and plot. You also get to arrange the movies by their order of favorites or popularity. This gave me the basic knowledge of android development.
  • Popular Movies Part 2: Making improvements on the app in the first project. Implementing functionalities like Database Storage, Intents, Recycler Views, and more.
  • Baking App: An app that takes recipes from a baker and shows to her users, showing detailed steps for each meal and also providing video footage for some. This as expected was the most tasking as I had to implement core functionalities like widgets, Media Player, building for different screen sizes and more.

Andela Nigeria all these while through our slack channels, regular online Hangout-on-air sessions and groups made sure we had the best resources to face the tasks that we given to us. We were accountable to one another in each group.

Going on, I intend to continue learning and building great and beautiful Android Apps that will shape the future of our generation.
