My ALC experience And How I Won The Droidery Challenge!

‘What a prominent opportunity!’, This I said to myself when I got to know about Andela Android Learning Community (ALC) and decided to dive into it, and just like that, it stated. meetups were exciting and challenge also encouraging. The learning journey transformed me, though there were a lot of challenges during the learning process, majorly network issues, I had to wake up at night to make use of internet, because that was when I could have better access to the internet.

And just about that time, Google I/O’17 was coming up and GDG Ekiti State University was going to have an extension of it. To brace it up, the program was said to come up with the droidery challenge which was about building an android application that could solve a problem. I knew this will be an opportunity for me to put what I have been learning into practice and see what I can bring out of it, so I decided to build an android app that can help advertise a product in various templates for users to make their choice and share on their social medias. I named the app ‘ SmartAd’. I figured it won’t be easy, coupled with school curriculum and the fact that I have to continue my learning process (ALC), but I continued anyway. ‘After all, the whole point of it is learning’, and sure enough, one could help the other.
And then I code!

At first, I did it in a perfunctory manner, but when it turns out to be working out, I engaged more effort, and with the help of fantastic developers, the likes of AY, Olayinka, awesome facilitator (otunba), Yinka, popularly known as Prof, the idea became a realistic one. I felt awesome that i was able to actualize something, not knowing it’s gonna pay off eventually. And in the end, I was surprised my app won the challenge! (All thanks to God).

From these experience, i learned you could give a try to almost anything which seems difficult, hard to reach or unimaginable. Because you will get a reference point of where you belong and how much hard work you need to bring to the table. Sometimes, all you need is the desire to try something off the shelf. Maybe its advantage won’t seem evident immediately, but the hard work will pay off in the long run.
Thanks to the Andela Android Learning community for this awesome privilege, and also to GDG Ekiti State University Guys, I couldn’t have done it without u.
