Yesterday, history was made as Google Developer Group (GDG), Lagos in partnership with Android Learning Community, Lagos, gathered over 600 developers in a room to discuss android development and ways to foster growth in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.

The Speakers

Adeyemi Moyinoluwa training on Andriod Studio

In 2010, when Google Developer Group (GDG) had their first meetup at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the absence of competent Nigerian trainers was apparent. All speakers were flown in from other countries. Yesterday’s event was a different story entirely, as all the trainers were Nigerians. Nigerians who are doing well on the global developers stage and impacting their local community by mentoring the younger developers, challenging them to do more.

The Growth, the age group and why it's important

Nigeria needs to train up a large number of skilled developers. The gospel of information technology needs to be preached and this revival must begin with secondary school students and freshmen in tertiary institutions. The world is competing for our local talents and it’s a war we can’t win.

Community Builders

Femi Taiwo, GDG Lagos convener

Femi TAIWO, GDG Lagos convener has a developers’ community that I think we should all be a part of. I also give kudos to all the amazing people building different developers community in Nigeria like GDG, ForLoop, Laravel, Pycon etc. SpecialSpecial shoutout to Femi TAIWO, Prosper Otemuyiwa, Ridwan Olalere, cO, Olawale Quadrillion Quadri Aniedi Udo-Obong Oyewale Oyediran among others, keep doing the great job, we are cheering you.

The developers community is a community that is dear to us at Techpoint.ng. If you have a developers meetup and you are looking for space to host about 60–70 people, get in touch. Our office might be available.
