President Mohammadu Buhari — The Dashed Hope

I was one of the unpaid defender of the President, during the campaign period of 2014/2015 and this continued when he became the president. You might ask why, but wasn’t it obvious, I also wanted change and this I wanted at all cost. I mean, I was tired of living in a vision less country where little or no plan for the future was given any attention whatsoever, was tired of listening to the old talking of the good old days as if we the young ones have no hope of a better future than they had. Now back to P.M.B, he and his party promised just three (3) things:

1. Security

2. Anti-Corruption, and

3. Better Economic Conditions.

Looking at how they have successfully failed in those areas. Let’s discuss how they have failed in details.

Security

He did well at the beginning of his tenure in arresting the scourge of the terrorist group BOKO HARAM by re-organizing the military for effectiveness, tackling the corruption endemic in the military especially the widely known “ARMSGATE” saga in which the country was defrauded of over a billion dollars, retraining the military to better fight the guerrilla style of battle employed by the terrorist organization and not to forget the setting up of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNTJF) to serve as a united front fighting the terrorist. With all this in place, you can expect good news to start coming in, which did, although we are still being told of a technical victory over the evil organization for more than three (3) now. You might ask of why are my suddenly opposed to this organization, with regards to security, it actually started this year when the news of the Fulani herdsman attacking Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, and several other places this so called Fulani herdsman has attacked. Imagine villages sacked by a particular sect of people, making this people internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their own country and the presidency kept mum for a particular period of time until there was an uproar in the country, then the president had to call his party members to tell them that he doesn’t want to rush to make any decisions.

“This is why I am not in a hurry to do anything. I will sit and reflect, and continue to operate with my clear conscience.”

- President Mohammadu Buhari

Interpretation:

“As if this is any reassuring, yes we know people are dying but the president is thinking about it, so you could all go and rest now.”

But in a not so similar matter, the president was quick to deploy the military to the south east during the secession protest while he was apparently in his own style of governance thinking about it and even gave the operation a name “Operation Python dance” and eventually tagged them a terrorist group.

A lot of people have accused the president of tribalism but the recent “BOMB LETTER” written by the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo accused him of nepotism. But my issue with him his not his nepotism but his quick reaction to the letter but not to the killings by the Fulani Herdsmen. This is the highest level of insensitivity.

The former president also accused the government of buck-passing and in not so distant time, the minister for defense came out of the national security council to blame the reason for the killings in Benue State on the anti-open grazing law implemented in the state as the reason for the killings, like that is the practical solution people expected from the council meeting. Let’s not even talk of the security personnel’s diversionary tactic of blaming the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) for the killings, what of the president’s family and friends who keep saying that it’s the enemies of the president that are causing the instability in the country. My reply to those is that, isn’t it someone that is sponsoring Boko Haram?

But why are we dealing with them but could not attack the so called rogue Fulani Herdsmen, there is something fishy somewhere and it is this insincerity that is making people come up with a lot of answers such as; whether the government knows about this new terrorism and his trying to further their agenda especially with the minister for agriculture plan to set up colonies across the country, the question here is why should a farmer owns his/her land for the purpose of farming and the herders cannot be encouraged to do the same but thinks setting up colonies across Nigeria is the answer. Hmmm, ok.

Well, whatever the case maybe, I hope the government is not trying to replace Boko Haram with a new terrorist organization. That is all I have to say for now.

In conclusion, a friend of mine said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not going to count my lamentation or prayers, Only the permanent voters card (PVC), so am going to definitely get mine and I also wish you do the same so we can stop complaining and get to action.

And I didn’t forget to discuss the other failed manifesto of this government, for I will be right back in a sequel.
