How We Turned Jakarta’s Oceanarium into an Adventure Gamification (and Doubled Return Visits)

“How do we get visitors to fully explore our facility AND keep coming back multiple times?”

The Challenge: One-Visit Wonders

Jakarta’s indoor oceanarium faced a common challenge among theme parks and attractions across Indonesia: despite high initial visitor numbers, return visits were disappointingly low, and internal data showed that most guests were experiencing less than 60% of the facility’s exhibits and interactive features.

Our Solution: Location-Based Adventure with BLE Technology

After analyzing visitor patterns and consulting with Antigrvty’s experience design team, the oceanarium implemented a comprehensive location-based tracking system using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons strategically placed throughout the facility.

Here’s what we built:

  1. Location-Aware Adventure App: A mobile experience that transforms as visitors move through different zones
  2. Digital Collection System: Completable missions that unlock collectable marine creatures (impossible to collect them all in one visit)
  3. Gamified Experience Design: xplore more, earn more. Each visit builds your collection and rewards.

The magic happens when a visitor enters a new zone. Their phone detects nearby beacons, and suddenly:

  • The app theme changes to match their surroundings
  • New challenges unlock
  • Content appears that’s only available in that specific location

Why It Worked

The BLE technology itself isn’t the hero here. What changed the game was transforming a passive viewing experience into an active exploration with:

  • Real rewards for curiosity
  • A reason to venture beyond the popular exhibits
  • Impossible-to-complete-in-one-visit progression
  • A personal collection that grows with each return

We didn’t just install technology — we created an addiction to discovery. Now visitors can’t wait to return

Want to transform your attraction into an adventure that keeps visitors coming back? Let’s talk.
