How We Turned Jakarta’s Oceanarium into an Adventure Gamification (and Doubled Return Visits)

Jakarta’s indoor oceanarium faced a common challenge among theme parks and attractions across Indonesia: despite high initial visitor numbers, return visits were disappointingly low, and internal data showed that most guests were experiencing less than 60% of the facility’s exhibits and interactive features.
Our Solution: Location-Based Adventure with BLE Technology
After analyzing visitor patterns and consulting with Antigrvty’s experience design team, the oceanarium implemented a comprehensive location-based tracking system using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons strategically placed throughout the facility.
Here’s what we built:
- Location-Aware Adventure App: A mobile experience that transforms as visitors move through different zones
- Digital Collection System: Completable missions that unlock collectable marine creatures (impossible to collect them all in one visit)
- Gamified Experience Design: xplore more, earn more. Each visit builds your collection and rewards.
The magic happens when a visitor enters a new zone. Their phone detects nearby beacons, and suddenly:
- The app theme changes to match their surroundings
- New challenges unlock
- Content appears that’s only available in that specific location
