Is it about the money that you earn? Or the lessons that you learn?

I had recently raised this questions on my Facebook timeline. Not many, but got quiet a few responses, the opinions were balanced. Some said it was about the money, someone said, “ It’s about the money you earn from the lessons you learn.” , someone said that you need both, hence you've to compromise on either one of it.

This thought has been lingering in my mind for a while now. I’ m more of a lessons person, always on a look out for new things to experiment with. Being in the advertising space, digital to be more specific, it really annoys me when people take the ‘thoughtless route’, recently I quit my new job for the very reason.

I had started my career with a very unique agency, an agency which always believed in putting a thought before haste, I had learned and adapted the same ecosystem, and it made sense to me. At the end of the day whatever we do needs to have a humane angle and lots of perspectives involved, and all this should reflect in our work too. And I quit this job of mine cause I was being paid a few bucks more than what I was earning.

I soon realised that I didn't want to work where I didn't belong and I had to go back to my old roots. So for now, I have joined my good old ‘thoughtful’ agency and my god I’m loving it.

Money will eventually follow, this is the time to learn, to try new things, make mistakes and smarter ones. This period is all about molding up my thoughts, and re-molding them when required, a stern stand towards things will only lead to narrower perspectives, and I can’t afford to lose perspectives at this moment.

Stooping down to a bare minimum cost is not the answer, but losing out on meaningful lessons is what I don’t want at this moment.
