UpCloud is a European cloud service provider offering cloud servers with 100% uptime SLA from eleven data centers around the world.

Because of its simplicity & performance, it is one of the most preferred providers for many businesses based in Europe.

Backups for Cloud Servers

UpCloud offers a backup solution out of the box, but it has some disadvantages:

  • it costs 20%, 40%, or even 60% of the Cloud Server price + $0.05/GB/month for additional storage not included in the cloud server plan
  • it runs only once a day
  • you cannot schedule the time when to run
  • retention is not flexible

Hourly to Daily UpCloud Backups using Weap.io

Using Weap.io you can schedule backups for your UpCloud Cloud Servers that run up to every hour and allow you to have full control over the retention policy.

Under the hood, Weap.io uses the UpCloud API to create snapshots. The snapshots are securely stored inside UpCloud’s infrastructure, just like a normal backup. In fact, an UpCloud Snapshot is the same thing as an UpCloud Backup, but with more control and a better price.

Another advantage of using snapshots over backups is that instead of paying 20%, 40%, or 60% of the Cloud Server price + $0.05/GB/month for additional storage not included in the cloud server plan, you only pay 0.056$/GB/month.
