operate with good intuition. There’s simply not enough time, money, or people at a start-up to invest in a bunch of research or data-gathering. Good product and people intuitions are what lead to successful outcomes in the arena of high-risk plays.

I think this is spot-on and something which doesn’t get said enough.
We’re constantly told that we should be data-driven and measure everything, but there’s two problems with that:
- Early on, you simply don’t have the volume of data for it to be significantly meaningful.
- You don’t know what you don’t know. So how do you decide what to track / measure?
Ultimately you still need good instincts and intuition in deriving any insight from the data you are tracking / measuring and especially so when you want to apply that insight in improving your business.
