The Magic of being Grateful

If there is one quality that is a pre-requisite for happiness in life, its Gratitude. There is always something/somebody to be grateful for. If we look back 5 years into our lives, what we wanted, most likely we already possess it. But we still find ourselves not satisfied and yearning for more. This is not to say that we should not have goals or have future plans, but it is merely to say that in order to be happy from what we accomplish in future, we must appreciate and be grateful for what we currently have.

A big lesson I learnt about being grateful is that we must express it. Being grateful to your spouse, parents, friends or anybody else doesn’t mean anything if you don’t express it and let them know that you are grateful to them in some way or the other. It’s like buying a beautiful present for someone but not giving it to them.

The Greater Good Science Center in U of C, Berkeley has done some fantastic research on gratitude and how it results in a more happier and healthy life. An attitude of gratitude can go a long way in leading a purposeful and happy life. It’s a choice at the end of the day which you are in total control of.
