Hi Rama,
It’s a great way to rethink about data mining. Looking at data and then checking reality would be a tiring effort. What I think could be a an effective way is as follows -
- Write the statements which business believes to be true. The hunches that sales/business people have.
- Refute the statements with data insights
- If Hunches are true, then enhance them by quantifying on parameters used to measure them
This approach I believe will cut the noise and produce insights for business much much faster. It’s also a good way to know whether business understands their numbers. Each iteration will eventually make business get closer to reality.
