Braid — Review
Time Bender, Mind Blender
Braid is a platformer puzzle game. You play as a man called Tim as he traverses across various worlds to find his ‘Princess’. The game uses the concept of bending time to create platforming paths for the players to collect pieces puzzles throughout the different worlds. Each world has a certain theme or a mechanic around which the puzzle is designed. The puzzles are very well made and will surely itch parts of your brain which may have gone untouched for far too long.
That is not all what Braid is all about. Underneath this gameplay, Braid tells a story. Players can solve the different worlds and their puzzles in order to piece them together to fit an overall picture of what happened between Tim and the Princess. I don’t want to spoil the ending, however I just want to say it will surely turn some heads.
Braid is a perfect example on how gameplay can act as a powerful storytelling device which other media simply cannot replicate.
