Adrealm Weekly Update
August 29 — September 4, 2018

Dear Adrealm Community,
Since the most of us trudged through the suffocating heat of August, September usually conveys a feeling of conscious rejuvenation, a rainy, refreshing kind of spring full of activities, tasks, and good intentions. But if the idea of September sounds fresh, the truth is different and the world is on fire — almost literally due to global warming.
Here, then, a Janus-faced Hanway for sun, rain, and the deluge of industry news you’ll be encountering this week.
World Wide Hot Spots
Blockchain is gradually taking the lead of the political system in many countries, mostly to tackle major issues like poverty, financial crisis, bureaucratic loopholes, and corruption. If you’re investing in cryptocurrencies or blockchain technology, looking for inspiration to build your own ecosystem, thinking of helping out in our *slightly* chaotic world, or maybe just wanting to know if the neighbour’s grass is always greener, we recommend you to dedicate 2 minutes to this week’s WWHS.
- K’chain! — We knew it was only a matter of time before our friends in Korea found a way to bring together two things for which the nation and it’s people are well-known: technology, and K-pop. CCN reports that a South Korea-based entertainment provider (Z-Pop) plans to use blockchain technology to find the next K-pop talent and develop a new entertainment platform. CCN cites the Korea Herald as reporting that Jun Kang, Z-Pop’s CEO, aims to use blockchain to create a global entertainment ecosystem. The ecosystem will run on the Ethereum blockchain. Franchise, anyone? Of course. News sources state that Z-Pop’s “Dream Audition” will extend to 10 regions: Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Singapore. The idea is use blockchain “to enable fans to vote for their favorite entertainers in award ceremonies and auditions with more transparency,” according to CCN.
- Thai Flour Power — A pilot project in Bangkok aims to bring trade renewable energy services by means of blockchain technology. The electricity grid connects a mall, a school, a dental hospital and an apartment complex. Partner of the project is Power Ledger, an Australian company (Reuters).
- “Please, leave a tip to the delivery robot”: Walmart, the U.S. retail behemoth has applied to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to patent a blockchain system to control drones and robots for package delivery across its supply chain. It is not Walmart’s first step to adopt blockchain technology to optimize its delivery system. Does the movie “I, Robot” sound familiar to you? (Cointelegraph).
- Is it time to learn Chinese? — You may have noticed that we always make sure to provide the latest news on the development of blockchain/cryptocurrency industry in China in our Weekly Updates. Why? Last week’s articles published by the Brookings Institution as well as Forbes can illuminate you on the reasons why China is driving the development of the blockchain technology (The Brookings Foundation & Forbes).
- The same old (salsa) song? — The recently elected Colombian President Ivan Duque expressed his intention to “chain” public funds to a public ledger in order to overcome corruption in the bureaucratic machine. Given his controversial public image in the thrall of the even more controversial former President Alvaro Uribe and given that the Anticorruption Referendum failed to meet the quorum on August, 26, we couldn’t blame you if you expressed mixed feelings about his announcement (Bitcoinist)
- How many BTC for a pizza? — Will Naples soon have its own cryptocurrency? That’s the project of the city’s mayor to free the city and southern Italy from the unfair rule of Roma and the “putrid” Euro. According to Luigi de Magistris, Naples is financially speaking under Rome’s thumb, leading to underdevelopment, corruption, less funds and more taxes. Alea iacta est? In the crypto-era there is no Rubicon to cross, nonetheless, Italy is currently a fertile ground for populist sentiments against the European Union as well as within the country itself. What could be the Napoletana currency? We’re foodies. Bite-coin, obviously (Cointelegraph)
- Japanese elegant minimalism — A couple of weeks ago we had mentioned that West Virginia is building a blockchain-based voting system, and we just now shared Colombian President Duque’s desire to tackle corruption with the help of blockchain technology. Enter the Dragon: Japan plans to use social security cards to verify voters’ identity. The mayor of the Japanese city Tsukuba about inexistent complicated procedures: “I found that it’s minimal and easy (The Next Web)
