Surrender

Life is an act of faith.

You take each step along the way with faith because you don’t really know whether or not the floor that you step on would fall or crumble the moment you step on it.

Life is an act of gamble.

You make every decision in life with the hopes that the odds will be in your favor, despite the fact that we know that’s not always the case.

Trusting someone is an act of faith. Being in a relationship with someone is an act of gamble. In a way, you’ve given yourself up.

However, there’s this more powerful thing that a human being can do: to surrender.

Love is an act of surrender.

It’s giving your whole life for someone else to take. It’s trusting another person to take your heart and do whatever they want with it. Total abandonment. Basically, you no longer have control.

I give myself to you. Take my life and my future in your hands.
Have my heart. Do anything you like with it.

It’s kind of crazy because it’s letting things go out of control, and all sensible people keep things under control.

However, to surrender is to believe that you can accomplish anything even when you cannot forsee the outcome—to surrender what you are for what you could become.

Therefore, it is a sensible thing to do, to love and therefore to surrender, to let go and to give oneself up, but it’s crazy because it’s letting things go out of control.

In the end, we come to the strange conclusion that in madness lies sanity.
