Is Medium’s Navigation System Broken?

I have discovered Medium a few weeks ago and slowly have been catching up, reading many of the top 100 stories for every month of 2015.

I am an avid reader, and many of the articles here are insightful, inspiring and helpful. I enjoy reading about entrepreneurship, startups, tech…

What prompted me to write this post is that today after I finished reading the top stories from previous months I tried to discover new content, and I discovered I can’t find relevant content by using Medium’s navigation. I could hack this by searching on google for “Medium latest posts” or “Medium … tag” but I think this is not how it should work.

As you probably know the top stories on the home page are showing the posts from the entire month, not counting the ones you already read. This means that once you go through them, the next time you come to Medium you will see the same articles.

What surprised me is the lack of an option to navigate latest posts:

This is Medium’s top menu

or the ability to see the entire list of tags:

Medium’s tag menu

With the target audience being technical, does it make any sense to link to a “Learn More” page describing what tags are instead of allowing to see more tags?

Also, they are showing Featured Tags, which probably are not the popular tags either, somehow forcing users to read more of that content instead of what we want.

What do you think?
