This essay shook me to my core . . .
Thank You to Jeff Hall . . .for your willingness to tell your reader a gut-wrenching lesson that you had to learn the hard way. So many people I know have “detached” from their friends and family members who struggle with addiction . . . and I totally get it . . . I used to believe that “detaching with love” was the only way I could keep my sanity too . . .but you’ve journeyed to the other side and can tell us with certainty that it doesn’t provide the emotional “self-preservation” we imagine it might . . . and in the end we may actually be depriving ourselves of quality time with our loved one (and that time, whether we know it or not, is already in very short supply.)
