The regressive left likes to throw out labels like candy and then ad hominem attacks people who…

  1. “Regressive left” sure is some kind of label, now, isn’t it?
  2. An argumentum ad hominem is an attack on an argument which takes the form, “My opponent is stupid, and therefore wrong.” Neither of the following are argumenta ad hominem:
“My opponent is stupid, and also wrong,”
“My opponent is wrong, and therefore stupid.”
Both of those are simply rhetoric; they are off-limits in a formal debate, but:
  3. The internet is not your fucking highschool debate club. Get over the idea that Ms. Wood is required to engage with you, or your arguments, in some idealized manner — especially when you’re chastising her like you think you’re in some kind of authority over her.
Oh, and on a related note:
  4. The principles of charity apply to your arguments, if she chooses to engage them; they do not apply to you. She doesn’t “owe it to you” to engage with the theoretical best versions of your arguments, because she doesn’t owe you anything.
  5. Lastly, when you say you are “open to changing your mind based on evidence”: you have ample evidence that Ms. Wood does not want to talk to you, so why are you still here in her responses, shouting at her?
