ADSactly Music- WHY I LOVE REGGAE MUSIC

The moment “reggae” is mentioned, one nationality comes quickly to mind.

THE JAMAICANS

I really wouldn’t blame people for ascribing everything reggae to the Jamaicans, they were the forerunners of the “green yellow and red” movement, with BOB MARLEY as their poster boy.

WHY REGGAE?

This style of music gives the singer or listener some form of euphoria. Most of the reggae artistes saw their songs as a means of escape, they to an extent felt a tad free to clearly express the opression they felt at that time. To them it was a culture, what they didn’t know was the fact that one day, it would be a very recorgnized genre of music globally.

THE MUSIC

Reggae is mainly characterized by the drums and then the bass guitar. There is a form of chemistry between these two instruments as far as “reggae music” is concerned.

I will let this video explain it all for me

Notice how you get drawn into the music first by the subtleness of the drums and then the bass guitar just dominates in a calm manner. If you actually take your time to listen to reggae music, I am sure you definitely would get addicted to the beauty in its simplicity.

THE RASTAFARI CUlTURE

True rastafarians see what they do to be more than religion. To them, it is a way of life. Being a “Rasta” is something they pride themselves with. The culture has of today extended beyond the walls of Jamaica into Europe, Asia, New Zealand, United States, and especially Africa.

Features of a Rasta

  • Dreads
  • Whenever you ask a Rasta why he has such a hairstyle, you will most likely be told this:

“The hairstyle was worn by warriors in Kenya, and a Hairstyle of ancient Kemet and Nubia. However in Jamaica, in post slavery and Eurocentric culture, the Hairstyle was deemed in the early years as “Dreadful” -Dubb

…Well that and the belief that they should not put metal objects on in their head. Guess they have a freecard to stay unkempt. Most of them also say that it makes them have a resemblance to the main of a lion.

  • Ganja Smoking
  • Oh boy !!! This is this the highlight for them. The all have come to understand that smoking the ganja helps them stay sharp and alert enough so they can correctly reason the ways of the world.

THE MUSIC

These reggae artistes take the time out to tell you stories that have some interesting layers of understanding if you listen close. Over the years, reggae has grown and have incoporated some more morden sounds into its play.

MY LOVE FOR REGGAE GROWS STRONG EACH AND EVERYDAY AS I AVAIL MYSELF OF GANJA INSPIRED MUSIC -lol

You should understand that not all reggae musicians take the ganja and keep dreads, but one thing still remains valid and might never change…
THE COLOURS

  • RED
  • YELLOW
  • GREEN
