Hiya Rhett!

My kids (ages 6, 10 and 13) watch GMM frequently. Obviously, I’ve sat in on a few of those viewings. I’ve always been pleased with the way your show is basically about curiosity and goofery, and never delves into mean spirited humor or unkindness. You guys (and your crew) keep it entertaining without having to stoop to “mature” humor (what’s with that label? how come “adult” and “mature” are so often applied to things that are juvenile and sphomoric?). Point is, I appreciate what you guys do.

I am also a southern white male. Grew up in Mississippi and Louisiana. I’ve heard all that idiocy about it being just about states rights and moral wars and whatever claptrap since I was a kid . . .

…I had written a whole lot about how stupid and hateful all this is (the statues, not their removal), but it ended up being much angrier than I intended. I’m not sure I can really discuss southern attitudes toward race without getting …emotional. (I’m apparently very angry at white people.) So, to cut to the quick. Yes! You get it! I’m glad you were able to pull far enough back to be able to see the lies behind the rhetoric.

I’m also very glad I don’t have to get the kids to stop watching you and Link. I would have a pretty hard time supporting a slavery apologist.
