“WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS ROLE…”
What are your thoughts on this VERY loaded question?
“WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS ROLE…”
Is it ethical for companies (large OR small) to not disclose a salary/compensation package or at lease a compensation ‘window’ to potential candidates?
Is this even legal?
How long has this “trend” been going on?
Is this the true sign of a struggling economy, or the mindset of cautious employers?
For potential employees — this may potentially be the most demeaning question and daunting part of the job search process: “Well, I know what I’m worth, but should I tell you I’m prepared to work for much less JUST to secure this potential job?”
And for Employers: “Well, you tell us what you’re willing to work for, BUT you might be talking yourself out of a potentially GREAT opportunity if someone is willing to come in cheaper than you, just saying…” OR is the whole thing a big game.
Are potential candidates selling themselves short by low-balling compensation packages to then lose opportunities to candidates NOT willing to low-ball their compensation expectations?
We’re curious to hear your thoughts - both from people LOOKING for work right now AND from Employers.
