I think you’re confusing what he *did* vs what he *intended to do*.

He may not have intended to insult anyone. He may not have thought he was insulting anyone (though he definitely was).

However, what you want in a communications does not matter — the results do.

And the results here are that 1. People (potential clients and partners, and existing employees) are insulted by what he wrote. 2. People are questioning Google’s work environments because of what he wrote and was cool with sharing within that work environment.
