It seems to be destroying John McCain so I’d suggest abandoning this mentality because you’re going down the same road. You’re not worse or even equivalent, but you’re inching closer.
You can be ecstatic that McCain will soon step away from American politics while still having sympathy for him as well as for his family and friends. Aggressive cancer of any kind is a brutal way to go and very, very few people deserve a brutal death.
Say what you will about McCain, but his bomb-bomb-bomb-and-bomb-some-more mentality wasn’t born out of a desire to see death and mayhem for their own sake. It is wrong-headed, antiquated, narrow-minded and savagely egocentric, but it was born from a belief that the best way to protect Americans was to engage in preemptive warfare.
That is not a defense against anything except the charge that he is a blood-thirsty murderer who relished the idea of dead children, charred bodies, rape, etc.
