Wafer, cell and module makers have absorbed higher polysilicon prices, or compensated with other cost reductions such as thinner wafers.
While global freight prices fell a little in 2Q 2022, and module, steel and copper prices are fairly flat, polysilicon prices reached their highest level since October 2022 on August 8. This has not translated into higher module prices, because wafer, cell and module makers have managed to absorb the extra cost by, for example, reducing wafer thincknesses to 155 microns rather than the previously standard 165–180 microns. We ecpect polysilicon prices to come down in 4Q 2022 and enable price reduction.
