I’m interested in age-based census data for a metro area and specifically one city (smaller city within a metric area). I’m curious about the quality of the census data.
Based on this article from the American Bar Association, it seems like giving correct census data is required by law and carries a fine, however, it is rarely enforced.
Based on the constitution, it seems like you’d only need raw population numbers (for congress, etc), however, it seems like the census is now used for more government programs.
All that is to say, the data is probably fairly reliable.
