We definitely think including the perspectives of caregivers and spouses is important. The introductory piece was written by several patients and family members, together. It’s important to note that many of them ALSO critique the way that they and their loved ones were depicted. Jamison’s mother, Bekah’s husband and her brother, and Jill’s partner, Janine all feel they were misrepresented. It’s worth reading their perspectives, too.
Furthermore, the perspectives of many researchers and doctors with actual expertise in these illnesses were excluded. Many of them take issue with the way medicine and science were presented, or rather, the lack thereof.
