The Fragility of the eSAF Frame

Recently, social media especially Facebook, has been abuzz with Honda automatic motorcycles, especially those using the eSAF frame, breaking. Even the age of the motorcycle is still relatively new with normal daily use. Then, what is the eSAF frame and what motorcycles use it. PT. AHM (Astra Honda Motor) introduced the eSAF (enhanced Smart Architecture Frame) frame at 2019 and also released its newest automatic motorcycle, the first to use this frame, namely the Honda Genio. PT. AHM claims this frame provides light & agile handling because it uses press and laser welding methods in the manufacturing process. The following is a Honda automatic motorcycle that uses the eSAF frame.

1. Honda Genio, this motorcycle is a pioneer of Honda’s automatic motorcycle which uses an eSAF frame, released in 2019 and has a distinctive retro design which makes this motorcycle have a strong Vespa aura.

3. Honda Scoopy 2021, one of women’s favorite motorcycle because of its rounded design and unique color choices.

4. Honda Vario 160, different from the Vario 125 or 150 because it uses an eSAF frame and the basic engine used is the same as the Honda PCX 160. Despite its large design and various features, unfortunately this motorcycle still uses a single rear shock.

From the list of motorcycles, the one with the most problems with the frame is the Honda Beat. If you try to open a Facebook group that discusses eSAF frame problems, quite a few Honda Beat 2020 users are complaining that the frame is rusting, even though the rust is a small thing, it can have a big impact in the future because it can cause damage to the point of breaking and there are even many victims.

Behind these problems, PT. AHM actually cuts frame production costs, thereby reducing the quality of the frame, even the thickness of the frame is only around 0.8 mm. Therefore, many people criticize PT. AHM to recall motorcycles as a form of responsibility.

The bottom of the frame is susceptible to rust, causing it to rot or break.
